I tend
to be somewhat partial to small utilities like this not having an
installer as well, but that said I think i'm going to be moving to
an installed application soon for a few reasons.

1) It allows me to do system checks, like verifying .NET 3.5 is
installed foe example, before installing the application
2) It allows me to present license information in a "proper" way
that is some-what required by a few of the libraries I use.
3) As you've seen, there are a few DLLs involved, so this isn't
just a simple one file app anymore.
4) It will cut down on the "How do I install this" or "where should
I put this" , or my favorite "What do I do with this zip file
thing?" questions I keep getting.

Is anyone really against it being an installed
app?

jwvanderbecktag:damodder.tenderapp.com,2009-12-02:Comment/7237072009-12-14T21:44:49Z2009-12-14T21:44:49ZGoing to be moving to an installer soon...

I really prefer the simplicity of a simple exe, but i see the
reasoning behind why you want to make an installer, so if you make
it also easily uninstallable then just do make an installer out of
it, i just hope i dont run into issues when uninstalling a beta and
installing the next one =)

Alex "Alexspeed" Bachnertag:damodder.tenderapp.com,2009-12-02:Comment/7237072009-12-14T21:45:44Z2009-12-14T21:45:44ZGoing to be moving to an installer soon...

Oh trust me if its installed it will uninstall, easily and
cleanly. I hate apps that don't uninstall properly.

jwvanderbecktag:damodder.tenderapp.com,2009-12-02:Comment/7237072009-12-14T21:46:56Z2009-12-14T21:46:56ZGoing to be moving to an installer soon...

dont forget to uninstall also the directory "\My
Documents\DAModder" so i dont have to delete it by hand with every
new version =)

Alex "Alexspeed" Bachnertag:damodder.tenderapp.com,2009-12-02:Comment/7237072009-12-14T21:48:49Z2009-12-14T21:48:49ZGoing to be moving to an installer soon...

In general you shouldn't have to delete that. Your backups are
stored there, so probably best to keep them unless I specifically
state to delete it for some reason.

jwvanderbecktag:damodder.tenderapp.com,2009-12-02:Comment/7237072009-12-14T21:55:57Z2009-12-14T21:55:57ZGoing to be moving to an installer soon...

i treat every new beta as a complete fresh install, because the
majority of pepole downloading damodder may still not have had it
installed before, so it makes more sense to me that way. But in
general you may be right, it isnt necessary, i just want to leave
no room for possible errors from a former beta version.

Alex "Alexspeed" Bachner
